The Complete IBO Player Setup Guide
IBO Player is the only application TVStorm supports, and there is a good reason for that: it installs on virtually every platform a Canadian household owns, its interface stays readable on a 55-inch screen from across the room, and playback is smooth without any tuning. This guide walks through every install path and every playlist method, screen by screen.
Among the IPTV applications on the market, IBO Player is one of the very few you can find on almost any platform and operating system. The clean interface is not the only draw — smooth playback and a sensible feature set are what keep people using it year after year.
Before you start, have two things ready: the credentials email we sent when your line was activated, and the device you intend to watch on. Nothing else is required. If the email has not arrived, check the spam folder, then message us on WhatsApp and we will resend it.
What IBO Player does well — and what it does not
Installs on almost any device (good)
Android phones, tablets and TV boxes, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Windows 10 and above, macOS, Debian and Ubuntu Linux, plus native builds in the Samsung and LG app stores.
The right choice for non-Android smart TVs (good)
If you own a Samsung Tizen or LG webOS television, IBO Player is available directly from the manufacturer's own content store — no sideloading, no USB stick, no developer mode.
No recording function (drawback)
As of the current release there is no DVR or catch-up recording of any kind. If recording matters to you, it is worth knowing before you install.
No multi-screen view (drawback)
You cannot watch two channels side by side in the same window. This suits us anyway — a TVStorm subscription permits one active stream at a time.
Remote playlist activation (neutral)
You enter your line on the IBO Player website rather than on the TV itself. Typing a long URL with a remote control is miserable, so this is arguably a feature rather than a flaw.
The app carries a small licence fee (neutral)
After a short evaluation period the developer charges roughly €5 for a year or €10 for a lifetime licence. That is a one-off payment to the app developer, entirely separate from your TVStorm subscription.
Installing IBO Player on Android phones, tablets and TV boxes
- Download the installation file from the official IBO Player website, or ask our support line for the direct link.
- Android will warn you that the file came from outside the Play Store. That is expected for this app — choose Download anyway.
- Open the downloaded file from the notification shade or your Downloads folder.
- Tap Install and wait for the progress bar to finish.
- Open the app. The first launch shows an introductory screen explaining how playlists work — read it, then tap OK.
- You now see the dashboard with a device MAC address and device key. Keep this screen handy; you need both values in the playlist step below.
Installing IBO Player on Windows
- Grab the Windows installer. It requires Windows 10 or newer and is published as a 64-bit build.
- Windows SmartScreen will interrupt because the file did not come from the Microsoft Store. Click More info.
- Choose Run anyway to continue.
- Click Next on the welcome screen.
- Tick the desktop-shortcut box if you want an icon, then click Next.
- Click Install, then Finish to launch IBO Player.
Installing IBO Player on an Amazon Fire TV Stick
- From the Fire TV home screen, move to the magnifier icon and press OK to open search.
- Search for Downloader — the sideloading utility. Type the letter D and the first suggestion is usually correct.
- Select the Downloader app and start the installation.
- Confirm with Download, then Allow when Fire TV asks for media access.
- Open Downloader, move the highlight to the URL field above the yellow Go button and press OK.
- Enter the official IBO Player Downloader code 511693 and press Go.
- The download starts and Downloader switches to its Browser tab. Leave it alone until it finishes.
- Fire TV will block the install because the file is not from the Amazon store. Choose Settings.
- Open Install unknown apps. If you cannot see it, go to About and press OK seven times on the remote to reveal Developer Options first.
- Find Downloader in the list and switch it from OFF to ON.
- Return to the installer and confirm with a couple of Next / OK presses.
- Press OK on the welcome message. The app is ready.
Installing IBO Player on macOS
- Download the macOS build from the IBO Player download section.
- Open the downloaded disk image and drag the app icon into your Applications folder.
- Open Launchpad and click the IBO Player icon.
- macOS will refuse the first launch because the app came from outside the App Store. This is normal.
- Click the Apple menu, open System Settings, scroll to Privacy & Security and find the blocked-application notice near the bottom.
- Choose Open anyway, then confirm. The permission is permanent — subsequent launches open straight away.
Installing IBO Player on LG webOS and Samsung Tizen televisions
- Open the LG Content Store (or the Samsung Apps store on a Tizen set).
- Select the magnifier icon in the top-right corner to search.
- Type IBO Player.
- Pick the correct entry — there are several look-alikes with similar names, so choose the one titled exactly "IBO Player".
- Click Install.
- Select Launch. A welcome message appears on first run; note the MAC address and device key it shows, then follow the playlist section below.
Adding your TVStorm line to IBO Player
IBO Player uses remote playlist activation. In plain terms: you log in on the IBO Player website with the MAC address and device key shown inside the app, save your line there, and it appears on the television within seconds. No typing long URLs with a remote.
- On a phone or computer, open the IBO Player website and click Manage Playlist in the top menu.
- The login form asks for a MAC address and a device key. Both are shown inside the app.
- On your streaming device, open IBO Player and select the person icon on the main dashboard.
- The Device Info panel in the top-left corner shows the MAC address and device key. Copy them into the web form and log in.
- You are now in the playlist manager. There are two ways to add a TVStorm line — pick whichever matches the credentials we sent you on WhatsApp.
Method 1 — Add Playlist (M3U / streaming line)
- Click Add Playlist.
- Playlist name: any label you like — "TVStorm" works.
- Playlist URL: paste the long M3U link from your activation email exactly as written, with no spaces before or after.
- XMLTV EPG URL: leave this empty unless you have a third-party guide source. Left blank, IBO Player extracts the guide straight from the playlist, which is what we recommend.
- Protect this playlist: tick it to set a PIN if children share the television.
- Click Save. Restart IBO Player on the TV and the full grid loads.
Method 2 — Add XC Playlist (Xtream Codes login)
- Click Add XC Playlist on the same dashboard.
- Fill in the playlist name as before.
- Enter the Host — the server address from your activation email, including the port.
- Enter your username and password exactly as we sent them; they are case-sensitive.
- Save, restart the app, and the channels, VOD shelf and EPG appear together.
Living with the Live TV section
Taming a 40,000-channel grid
The first load looks overwhelming. Open Settings → Manage Categories and switch off every country bouquet you will never watch. Keeping Canada, Québec, the United States and one or two extras turns the grid into something you can actually browse with a remote.
Adding a channel to favourites
Highlight a channel in the list, hold the OK button on the remote (or long-press on a phone) and choose Add to favourites. The Favourites category then sits at the top of the list.
Searching the channel list
Press the coloured search key or select the magnifier at the top of the Live TV screen and type a few letters. Searching "TSN" or "ICI" is far quicker than scrolling.
The settings that actually matter
Network
Shows the connection IBO Player is using. Worth checking first if streams stutter — a wired Ethernet cable beats Wi-Fi on a Fire TV Stick almost every time.
Parental control
Sets a PIN on categories or on the whole playlist. Useful on a shared family television.
Manage categories
The single most useful screen in the app. Hide bouquets, reorder them, and the grid becomes manageable.
Live TV player / VOD player
Lets you switch the decoder between hardware and software. If one specific channel shows sound but no picture, changing this usually fixes it.
Language
Switches the interface, including French.
Clear cache
The first thing to try when the guide looks stale or artwork fails to load.
Auto boot on start
Launches IBO Player the moment the TV or box powers up — handy if the family treats it as the main television.
Check for updates
Run this before contacting support; several playback quirks disappear with a newer build.
If something goes wrong
- A single channel is frozen but others play — that source is degraded. Try the HD or SD variant of the same channel; our servers usually recover the feed within minutes.
- Everything buffers — test your connection speed. Below roughly 20 Mbps the heavier 4K feeds will stutter. Switching the whole bouquet to HD solves it on rural DSL lines.
- The app reports an expired or invalid line — check for a typo first, then confirm your subscription period on the pricing page and message us to renew.
- Nothing loads at all after a successful login — clear the cache, then restart the device. This clears roughly nine out of ten mystery faults.
- Still stuck? Write to us on WhatsApp with a photo of the error. A technician answers within the hour, day or night.
Reminder: a TVStorm subscription permits one active stream at a time and works only with IBO Player. No line yet? Compare lengths on the pricing page or order straight from checkout.
